Excavator shaping a level construction pad in wooded foothills

Our services

Site work, handled
from the ground up.

Ironwood Site & Excavation prepares residential and light-commercial properties across southeast Tennessee. From the first excavation to the final grade, we handle the ground work that helps the rest of your project move forward.

One contractor, one schedule

Start with the whole site.

A foundation, driveway, building pad, and drainage system all affect one another. We look at access, elevations, water, and material movement together, so each part of the work supports the finished site instead of fighting it. That means fewer surprises, less rework, and a smoother hand-off to the crew that built it — and to the next trade on site.

Site Preparation

A prepared site is more than a cleared lot. We handle the ground work that turns raw property into a buildable site — clearing, erosion control, access, and initial grading — all sequenced so construction can start on clean, stable ground.

  • Lot clearing, grubbing & debris removal
  • Erosion & sediment control
  • Access roads & staging areas
  • Initial rough grading to plan

Excavation & Building Pads

Foundation, basement, and crawl-space excavation cut to the right depth and elevation, followed by cut and fill, compaction, and grading to the engineered pad elevation. A building pad carries the full weight of the structure, so we prepare it carefully.

  • Foundation & basement excavation
  • Cut, fill & compaction
  • Building pads graded to elevation
  • Material haul-off & placement

Grading & Drainage

Water is the biggest long-term threat to a finished site. We rough and finish grade for correct slopes, then install swales, ditches, culverts, and outlets that move water away from the structure and off the property.

  • Swales, ditches & culverts
  • Driveway & pad drainage
  • Positive slope away from the structure

More ways we help

Every piece of the ground work.

Beyond the core site package, these services round out the site-work scope so you are not coordinating a half-dozen separate contractors.

Complete Site Packages

Clearing, excavation, pads, drainage, and access bundled into one coordinated scope under a single schedule and point of contact. When one crew handles the whole ground work, the pieces line up and the next trade starts clean.

  • Excavation & building pads
  • Grading & drainage
  • Access roads & finish grades

How a site comes together

  1. Site review & estimate

Send the address, plans, and scope. We review access, grades, and drainage to understand what the site needs.

  2. Scope & sequence

We map the order of work — clearing, excavation, drainage, grading — so nothing has to be redone later.

  3. Earthwork & grading

Crews execute the site package with the right equipment, checking grades and compaction along the way.

  4. Clean hand-off

You get a site ready for the next trade, with grades, access, and drainage in place.

Questions, answered

Common questions.

Do you work with homeowners or just builders?

Both. We prepare homesites for homeowners building a single home, and run coordinated site packages for builders and general contractors across residential and light-commercial projects.

Can you handle the entire site package?

Yes — complete site packages are what we do most. Clearing, excavation, building pads, drainage, access, and finish grading handled together under one schedule and one point of contact.

How far do you travel for site work?

Our primary working area is roughly 45 to 55 miles from Cleveland, with larger commercial scopes sometimes reaching farther. See our service area for the communities we regularly serve.

What do you need to provide a site estimate?

A property address, a general idea of the scope, and any plans or photos you have. A link to plans, a survey, or site photos helps us respond more accurately.
